The Dubai Mall: A First-Timer's Guide
What to see, eat and buy at The Dubai Mall — the world's largest shopping centre. Aquarium, fountains, best stores, parking, and timing.
1 min read

The Dubai Mall is the second-largest mall in the world by area, bigger than 50 football pitches, with 1,200 shops, an aquarium, an ice rink, a dinosaur skeleton and the base of the Burj Khalifa. For a first visit, three or four hours is the minimum. Here's how to make them count.
Getting there
Metro Red Line to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station, then a 15-minute walk through the air-conditioned Metro Link. Taxi drops you at any of the eight entrances. If driving, use the Grand Parking (3,000 free spots) and remember your zone — the mall is big enough to make finding the car a project.
The must-sees
Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo (walk-through tunnel, free from outside the glass), Dubai Ice Rink, Candylicious (biggest candy store in the Middle East), the dinosaur skeleton in Souk Atrium, and the VR Park. Right outside: the Dubai Fountain, with free shows every 30 minutes from 18:00 to 23:00.
Shopping highlights
Fashion Avenue (luxury: Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton), the Grand Atrium (department-store names), Souk-themed section (gold, perfume, souvenirs — more polished than the real souks), and Level Shoes (one of the biggest footwear retailers globally). For Emirati designers, visit The Flag Shop and the Dubai Design District pop-ups.
Where to eat
Food Court is on Level 2 — convenient but busy. For sit-down: At.mosphere on floor 122 of Burj Khalifa (fine dining with city view, reservations essential), Social House on the fountain terrace (shisha and Asian), Tim Hortons for a quick Canadian breakfast, or Alhaddawi for traditional Emirati food in a nice setting.
Timing
Weekdays 10:00–14:00 are quietest. Avoid Friday evening and Saturday afternoon — the mall is packed. For the fountain show, come at 17:45 and get a terrace table.
