Dubai Diamond Shopping Guide: Where to Buy and What to Check
Where to buy diamonds in Dubai, how certification works (GIA, IGI, HRD), what the 4Cs really mean in the souk, and typical price ranges.

Dubai has become one of the biggest diamond markets in the world — the Dubai Diamond Exchange processes billions in rough and polished stones every year. For a tourist that means strong wholesale infrastructure, honest certification, and prices 20–40% below London or New York retail. Here's how to buy without being overwhelmed.
Where to buy
Three main places: the Gold & Diamond Park off Sheikh Zayed Road (specialist workshops, custom work), Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates (international brands — Tiffany, Graff, Cartier), and the Dubai Diamond Exchange inside Almas Tower (wholesale, by appointment, best for 1ct+ stones).
The 4Cs in practice
Carat (size), colour (D is colourless, Z is yellow), clarity (FL to I3), cut (how well it reflects light). In Dubai, D-F VVS1-VS2 excellent-cut stones carry a premium of 20–30% over G-H SI1-SI2. For eye-clean budget pieces, G colour and SI1 clarity give you most of the sparkle at 70% of the price.
Certification
Insist on a GIA, IGI or HRD certificate for anything above 0.3 carats. GIA is the most conservative (and most expensive to issue); IGI is popular in Dubai and widely trusted. The certificate is laser-engraved into the stone's girdle so you can verify under 10x magnification.
Lab-grown vs natural
Dubai sells both. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically identical and cost 60–80% less. Mall boutiques are starting to carry lab-grown lines (Pandora, local designers); specialist jewellers at Gold & Diamond Park will quote both side-by-side.
Haggling and extras
On branded pieces (Tiffany, Cartier) prices are fixed. On non-branded or custom work, 10–20% off the asking is reasonable. Always get the certificate included and ask for free resizing or minor adjustments within 30 days.
